The Cost of Diapers 2010 – February Update

After adding in my diaper purchases for January and February here is what I’ve spent so far on diapers this year.

I will be getting additional rebates for the Rite Aid Pampers and will subtract that when I get it.

This last week I got my rebate check from Caregivers Market Place- $12.50!   Not bad for saving my receipts for Huggies diapers and a few other products then at the end of the year I filled out the rebate form.   I will add that $12.50 back into the cost of diapers for this year, since I didn’t include that in my calculations last year.  Note:  This year 2010 Caregivers doesn’t offer the same rebates as in 2009.

Rite Aid Shopping Trip 02/11/10

I got out in the snow!  If it was only for a half hour give or take.  My hubby and daughter went with me to Rite Aid.  I had 2 $20 Gift of Savings Certificates that expire soon so I wanted to find the best way to use them.

I mentioned earlier about the P&G Olympic Visa Rewards Rebate #551VALID ONLY ON PURCHASES FROM 01/17/10 to 02/13/10

Purchase Twenty-Five Dollars ($25.00) Worth of Any Variety for a $5.00 VISA Reward Card OR
Purchase Fifty Dollars ($50.00) Worth of Any Variety for a $15.00 VISA Reward Card OR
Purchase One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) Worth of Any Variety for a $35.00 VISA Reward Card

My goals was to spend at $100 before coupons to get the $35 VISA card and also get as much Rite Aid rebates.

I had to change some of my purchases because they were out of some things.  I bought the CrossAction toothbrushes and batteries instead of Tide and Tide Action packs, my store doesn’t carry the Action packs yet.  I also bought the deodorant and body wash since there weren’t any more Bounty 6 packs.

2 – Vicks Nyquil $3.99  (Wanted the Dyquil but they were out!)
1 – Puffs Facial Tissues 132 ct  $2.49
Submit for $1 SCR #15

Used the $3 coupon from Rite Aid for Durcell Batteries

Used the $20 gift certificate

OOP:  $19.62

I will get $17 back in Rite Aid Check.
I will get the $35 Visa reward because I purchased $112 worth of merchandise.
Total = $52

Since I’m now considering any reward that is store credit as a coupon (i.e $20 gift certificates) rather than cash, then this was a profit of $26.87.

Profit: $26.87

I saved a lot because since most of the items were on sale BEFORE coupons the value of the products are worth more than $112. Taking what I spent out of pocket which equals $25.13 and not considering the rebates I saved 77% ($112-$25.13)/$112!   When you consider the rebates I will get I saved 123% ($112-$25.13+$52)/$112!!  Wow!

Thanks to KrazyCouponlady for all of the good ideas!

The Cost of Diapers 2010 – January Update

One of the reasons I started to get into couponing was because of the cost of diapers and wipes.  I would go to Walmart, Sam’s Club, Target, Babies R Us and compare the prices and figure which store would give me the best deal and then I discovered the ‘coupon‘.  Coupons as you may or may not already know hold the key to finding some great deals.  In the last year thanks to the CVS and Rite Aid I’ve lowered my cost to diapers to about $300 a year.

This is an estimate so this year I plan on costing out how much I spend on diapers and soon training pants. My little girl isn’t a little girl anymore.  She wears size 6 and is a “big” girl!  Size 6 diapers cost a lot more than the 1 and 2 sizes and are hard to find on sale.  In some cases, I get excited about some of the deals only to find out that they don’t carry size 5 or 6.  Today, we bought her “potty” and will slowly introduce her to it.  She is 18 months old going on 19 months and thinks the “potty” is really neat.  I hope that continues!

If you find a good diaper deal or training pant deal PLEASE let me know.  Thanks!

How much have I spent on diapers in 2010?

Alice.com Shopping Trip 01/04/2010

I realized I had one of the “$5 Alice Gift Card for being a new user” that I received from my Swagbucks points a couple months ago and I thought what a perfect time to use it I need diapers badly and maybe I can find some good deals.

If you haven’t checked Alice.com please do so, it is a online store that  provides you a better way to manage all of your household essentials online they include regular daily deals and automatic coupons too.  You can create one time shopping trips or you can even create regular shopping schedules, as long as you have 6 items in your cart, you always pay FREE shipping!

This is what I got:

Luvs Diapers, Size 6 1 $6.92 $6.92
Lipton 100% Natural Tea 1 $1.09 – $0.50 Off $0.59
Glad Flexible Straws 1 $0.67 – $0.25 Off $0.42
USPS Book of twenty first-class stamps, Forever 1 $8.80 $8.80
Bounty Paper Towels, Prints, 1-Ply 1 $0.84 – $0.25 Off $0.59
Alka-Seltzer Antacid & Pain Relief, Original 1 $2.46 – $1.00 Off $1.46
Sub-Total $20.78
Coupons - $2.00
Tax $0.42
Other Discounts -$5.00
Shipping Always Free
Total $14.20

If I don’t use tax in my calculations then I paid $5.51 for diapers, $7.69 for 20 Forever stamps that equals $0.3845 each, and $0.35 on Alka-Seltzer, plus $.42 tax.  Everything else was FREE! That’s pretty good!  All of the items I will use!

I paid $14.20 for $20.78 worth of products = 32% savings  (Which would be  more if I calculate using retail pricing.)

Here is my calculation:

Total before savings $20.78 – total I paid $14.20 = amount saved $6.58 / total before savings $20.78 = percentage saved 32% savings

Is this is the best way to calculate my savings?  You can read my previous post about calculating savings.  I’m always open to new ideas!

Safeway Shopping Trip 11/21/2009 Saved 60%!!

safewayLogoWow!  I’m impressed. This trip took me about an hour.  I was new to the store so I had to learn the aisles.

safewaytrip_112109

I also asked the store manager a couple questions before I began shopping.

1.  For safeway coupons that state to use you need to have a $20 “purchase” does that mean I have to purchase $20 before I can use the coupons?  YES

2. If I purchase just the items that qualify for the Safeway coupons and they equal over $20 does that qualify?   NO

3.  Can I use the $5 Home for Holidays immediately on another transaction?  YES

Home for the Holiday Promotion

4 Bisquick 10.00 ($.60 off coupons, 4 doubled, plus $.60  e-coupons Shortcuts.com)
2 BC Frosting 3.00 ($.50 off coupons, 2 doubled, plus $.50 e-coupons Shortcuts.com)
4 BC Cookie Mix 6.00 ($.40 off coupons 4 doubled, plus $.40 e-coupons Shortcuts.com)
1 Nestle Toll House Chips 2.00 (1.00 off Safeway catalina found in cart!)
2 Hefty Foam Plates 3.00 ($1.50/2 off coupon)
2 ICBINB Light Tubs $3.98 ($1.00/2 off coupon)

Before coupons $27.98 after coupons $12.98 so after the $5 catalina = $7.98 for the above!
(They were out of the $1.99 ICBINB sticks.  Bummer!  I bought the ICBINB tubs to get me over $25 and then I realized I found that $1.00 off Nestle Toll House chips and $1.00 for chips is pretty good! The best part is I got the white chips!  Yummy!)

Besides the Home for the Holiday promotion I got a couple other things.  Check out these deals!

2 Gallon Milks $6.78  (Not the best price but I needed milk and it doesn’t make sense to drive farther for cheap milk.)

1 dozen eggs $1.79

1 celery $1.50

1 Rapid Rise Fleshmans yeast $1.50 ($.40 off coupon, 1 double)  Got back a $.50 Catalina!  After coupons and catalina = $0.20!!

Safeway Possibly Cheap Diapers 11/15-11/21

safewayLogo

Quick update!  I did this deal and used the e-coupons on Shortcuts and safeway.com (coupons.com) and only bought 1 pack of overnights.  It came out to $2.95! Look out for these coupons in the future.

I’m a newbie to shopping at Safeway.  Now, I’m not sure how this works so this is a suggestion.

Today, I learned that Safeway has a coupon in their 11/15 insert for $7.99 Huggies or Pampers Jumbo pack diapers (without the coupon they are $9.99) and the limit is 4.  It states on the coupon that you have to spend at least $20 to use “all” of the coupons on the page.

Linked from Safeway.com

From what I’ve learned at Safeway you can load manufacture coupons on to your Safeway card PLUS you can use a paper manufacture coupon, and with the Safeway coupon this can be a great deal!  This is called “stacking” coupons.

Frugal in Virginia mentions some Cell Fire coupons that you can load onto your Safeway card.  There is a 2/$3 Huggies coupon available!

Plus, there are some $1, $2 and even $3 Huggies coupons (for specific types of Huggies so check the coupons).

My guess is if you can use the $3 Huggies Naturals and the Cell Fire coupon you can get 3 packs of Huggies for about $11.97 that is $3.99 a pack!  Wow! Since I need size 6 diapers and usually Naturals only come in size 5, I would use the $1 or $2 coupons so that would make it $18.97 or $6.32 a pack.  Still not bad!

Any thoughts or suggestions?  I’m tempted to get some.

Diapers deals – RiteAid, Diapers.com and more

I’m running low on my stockpile of diapers.  Big thanks to Rite Aid for the great diaper deals recently.  I’ve either spent very little or earned a profit.  I think so far I’ve spent under $300 for diapers this year alone. I’ll have to it add up. It might even be less than that since most of the time I get them at CVS or Rite Aid.

Rite Aid

This week Rite Aid has a great deal on diapers.  If you are like me and immediately submitted for your GOS (Gift of Savings) promotion at Rite Aid you should have your $20 certificate.  This week Rite Aid has Huggies for $9.99 and a $3 Rite Aid Rebate use a $1.50 or $1.00 coupon in Sunday paper (10/25) then it will be $5.49 or $5.99 for one pack.  Go ahead and get a couple packs and use a $5/$25 or $5/$25 and get even more diapers!

Here is a suggestion:

Buy 3 Huggies Diapers for $9.99
3 -$1.00 Huggies coupon 10/25 SS
SubTotal = $26.97
-$5/$25
Total = $21.97
-$20 GOS certificate
OOP = $1.97

Get back $3 Rite Aid Rebate  and 3 packs towards (buy 5 get 6 free coupon) and 3 packs towards $.75 per pack for caregivers rebates

I’m sure there will be other diaper deals in the future at Rite Aid since the GOS doesn’t expire until later  but this one looks good right now.

Diapers.com

If you are like me and can’t get to Rite Aid this week or you don’t mind spending a little bit more on diapers.  Here is another great deal.   As long as you are a new customer to diapers.com this will work really well.

1.  Place your order through Ebates to receive an extra 1% off.  If you aren’t signed up for Ebates, you can do so here, and receive a $5 bonus just for signing up.
2. Search for diapers.com and add your items (any combination of $49+) to your cart.  Check for coupons to check off! The subtotal is before coupons! Woohoo!
3. Proceed to check out. If you’re a new member, you’ll have to register.
4. Enter the coupon code Search10 to get $10 off.
5. If you originally added $49 or more to your cart (before the code), your order should qualify for free shipping.
6. Place your order, but remember to send away for your rebate!
7. Go here and print out the form to receive a rebate of $14.97 rather than a magazine subscription.

Here is what I did:
Huggies Snug and Dry Diapers Extra Large Case size: Size 5 $39.99 – $1.50 coupon = $38.49
Huggies Pure & Natural Diapers – Jumbo Pack size: Size 5 $9.99 – $3.00 coupon = $6.99
Item Subtotal $49.98
Free Shipping
Promotional Discount $10.00
(Promotion Search10)
Total: $35.48
After the Rebate $14.97
Total = $21.48 for over 100+ diapers

I also got premium shipping which means I should get it Wednesday!
Thanks to Frugal in Virginia for info about this!

Rite Aid Deals 9/20-9/26 – Great Diaper deal!

ra_logo

People wonder why I love coupons.  This is a great example as to why I love coupons!  When there is a way to buy the things I need for my family and get them cheap, free or profit, it is so worth it.

Earlier I mentioned I was looking for diapers deals and then last week I discovered that I got the Rite Aid coupon from the July rebates!  FREE diaper coupon up to $11.49 value.  I was super excited and thought of a good deal at Rite Aid last week, however, after a little bit more reading I discovered, thanks to HotCouponWorld.com, the fact that the diapers will be on sale and a rebate will occur when buying 3 packages it was worth to wait! Use the Rite coupons $5/$20 or $5/$25 and you will make this deal a MONEYMAKER!  Yes, a profit!

If you don’t have the FREE diaper coupon up to $11.49, not to worry.  This is still a good deal.  Per my quick calculations this will be a $3 Profit!

Always check my calculations and confirm you have all of the necessary coupons.  Check out the RiteAid coupon policy and take it with you, if necessary.  It seems most stores are aware that you can combine or “stack” a RiteAid coupon with a manufacture coupon and use 1 internet coupon per “purchase” or “item”.

For the RiteAid Ad Click HERE.
